Miranda was born in Daman, India, in 1926. Raised in a Goan Catholic family, his passion for drawing was ignited early, sketching characters from school textbooks by age seven. Without any formal training in art, he developed his unique caricature style through curiosity and relentless practice, nudging him into the Indian cartoonist fraternity.A strong influence in Miranda's art was his upbringing in the idyllic coastal town of Goa. From foreign tourists and local fishermen to bustling bazaar scenes - all found their way into his sketchbook.
Mario Miranda's cartoons were famed for their intricate detailing, bold strokes and riotous humour. His depiction of the quintessential Goan lifestyle, infused with satire and social commentary, became his signature style.
